چکیده

Orr et al. (2014) identified bugs in the R package seacarb, which had very little effect on computed results when used with the best practices constants (Dickson et al., 2007), and highlighted very long processing time on big data files. Version 3.0 has just been released and can be downloaded from CRAN. The package has been modified to fix the minor bugs and optimize the code, leading to a dramatic increase

Comparison of ten packages that compute ocean carbonate chemistry

Marine scientists often use two measured or modeled carbonate system variables to compute others. These carbonate chemistry calculations, based on well-known thermodynamic equilibria, are now available in a dozen public packages. Ten of those were compared using common input data and the set of equilibrium constants recommended for best practices. Current versions of all 10 packages agree withi...

Improved routines to model the ocean carbonate system: mocsy 2.0

Modelers compute ocean carbonate chemistry often based on code from the Ocean Carbon Cycle Model Intercomparison Project (OCMIP), last revised in 2005. Here we offer improved publicly available Fortran 95 routines to model the ocean carbonate system (mocsy 2.0). Both codes take as input dissolved inorganic carbon CT and total alkalinity AT, tracers that are conservative with respect to mixing a...

Interactive comment on “High temporal and spatial variability of dissolved oxygen and pH in a nearshore California kelp forest” by C. A. Frieder et al

Response to the review by Anonymous Referee #2 We would like to thank the anonymous referee for a thorough review and general suggestions that will improve the quality of this manuscript. In the following sections, comments originating from the reviewer will be given in italics, and text in quotations is intended to be included in manuscript revisions. Specific Comment 1 In order to constrain t...

Response to technical comment on `meta-analysis reveals negative yet variable effects of ocean acidification on marine organisms'.

It has been proposed that crustaceans should be excluded from a comparison of biological responses to ocean acidification among organisms with different calcium carbonate (CaCO3 ) forms in their calcified structures. We re-analysed our data without crustaceans and found high variation in organismal responses within CaCO3 categories. We conclude that the CaCO3 polymorph alone does not predict se...
